Our Mission

As a registered 501(c)3, the Sua Sponte Foundation (SSF) provides immediate support to the Warriors and families of the 1st Ranger Battalion. Our mission includes, but is not limited to: Supporting the immediate and urgent needs of Rangers and their families during times of crisis. Maintaining a memorial dedicated to the fallen warriors of the 1st Ranger Battalion located at Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, GA. Creating, providing funding for, and supporting events that seek to improve morale and unit cohesiveness.

OUR PROGRAMS

Wounded and Fallen Ranger Assistance

SSF provides financial assistance to the families of the wounded or fallen Rangers to cover any special needs that may not be covered by the government or traditional channels. These can be medical, travel or logistics related. SSF was founded in Savannah and the majority of our Board Members live here. Consequently, when a tragedy occurs, we can be notified and on the ground providing financial and logistical assistance in hours not days.

In the past, we have provided financial assistance that allowed additional family members and care givers to accompany Gold Star Families while traveling during times of crisis.

In addition, SSF provided oversight and the financial backing necessary for a Ranger’s home to be modified and adapted for wheelchair use after he was wounded in combat.

Further, SSF has provided the necessary financial support that allowed spouses to accompany their Ranger when he had to travel out of state to receive a higher level of medical care.

The Memorial Grounds

The Memorial Site is located at Hunter Army Airfield. The grounds serve as a place to reflect, commemorate, and remember the Fallen. As such, it is considered hallowed ground by the men and families of the 1st Ranger Battalion. It serves as a backdrop to the majority of the Ranger ceremonies on Post. SSF is responsible for the design, upkeep, and ongoing maintenance of the Memorial grounds.

Transitional Services

Several members of SSF have extensive backgrounds in the Financial Services industry and are repeatedly invited to provide financial planning seminars for the men of 1st Battalion. In addition, they offer individual financial planning sessions to all members of the Battalion and their families at no(t) cost. At no time will a SSF member charge a fee for their services or advice. SSF members work on an individual basis with Gold Star families as they navigate the benefits and the veteran’s services processes. In addition, SSF partners have provided estate settlement and estate planning services free of charge to families who have lost a loved one in training or combat.

The transition from the warrior world to the corporate world can be challenging and daunting if not properly prepared. We offer assistance with resume creation, job search, and interviewing skills for the corporate world. We have worked with several Rangers already and helped plan their career paths. We also work and partner with other non- profits that specialize in getting vets into the workforce. We partner with several charitable organizations that provide additional assistance in this area.

Morale and Unit Cohesiveness Events

SSF creates, funds and supports events that seek to improve morale and unit cohesiveness. This includes but is not limited to the following: Sending care packages to each deployed Ranger. Providing funding for Ranger Ball events. Providing funding and logistical support for major anniversaries and Reunions. Providing funding for leadership Retreats. Providing funding for team building exercises. Providing funding and volunteers for family related events. A more complete list can be found on “Our Mission” Tab.
